Today is an historic moment.
Haringey Children’s Services has just been rated ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED for the first time ever in our history.
This is as much a cause for reflection as it is anything else.
Anyone who knows the history of Haringey Council, knows how massive this is for the borough. To over-celebrate would be to do this achievement – and the tireless work of our council staff – a disservice.
When I took over Haringey Council in May 2021, I was determined to deliver political stability – to enable the Council to deliver on our promises to residents.
That we are in a position to say our Children’s Services is rated ‘Outstanding’, having received its first ever ‘Good’ in 2023, is testament to that.
It now forms part of our ‘Outstanding’ offer for children:
- 98% of schools and nurseries: ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’
- Haringey Children’s Services: ‘Outstanding’
- Special educational needs provision: ‘Outstanding’
- Alternative provision: ‘Outstanding’ (best in the country)
Huge congratulations and thanks to our Corporate Director at Haringey and Cabinet Member, Cllr Zena Brabazon, who has been in this role for years and working for children in Haringey for decades.
Thank you for being with us on this journey. But the journey doesn’t end here.
