Central Boarding Doors

Local bus drivers have welcomed TFL’s decision to move all boarding and exiting from buses to the central doors.

Across London 20 bus drivers have sadly died during the pandemic with the decision being made following succesful pressure from the driver’s union, Unite. Haringey has two bus garages in Wood Green and Tottenham.

As more people go back to work, it remains important that bus drivers remain safe in their crucial work.

Pete Skinner, Unite Garage Rep at Wood Green commented that:

“It was a long time coming but bus crew and garage staff feel more confident going to work now that Unite has secured an agreement on our two central concerns – no front door access for passengers on buses and deep cleaning in garages. We now need the travelling public in Haringey to stay 2 metres clear of the driver and a similar distance from each other. We have kept the buses running; that has been so important for NHS and other carers to get to work but we must be given the opportunity to do our important job safely.”
