Haringey Labour News from your Haringey Labour Team
Campaigners were at stations throughout Haringey this morning, speaking to passengers about the rise in rail fares.
Under this Conservative Government, and the Liberal Democrat coalition before it, rail fares rose by 36%. This January, fares have risen by a further 3.2% placing an increasing burden on commuters.
Labour Campaigners pointed out the difference a Labour Mayor has made in London where all fares have been frozen for the third year running.
While Transport for London reinvests all its profits in improving its services, our chaotic railway system has been the source of £1 billion for shareholders. This is in spite of rail punctuality sitting at a 13 year low.
Sadiq Khan, meanwhile, has opened the Night Tube and Overground, introduced the unlimited Hopper bus fare and continue to tackle air pollution with the Toxicity Charge.
Haringey Labour supports the plan to bring the railway system back into public ownership so that people can get about the country affordably.
