New research, published today by the Children’s Commissioner, has identified Haringey as one the best places for children to grow up, reflecting Haringey Labour’s legacy delivering for children and families.
The Childhood Lottery report identifies Haringey seventh out of all local authority areas in England for the delivery of services for children. This includes health and social care, education, housing, safety and access to play facilities. The Children’s Commissioner highlights Haringey particularly as a borough which has scored “very highly”, despite having higher levels of poverty than other high-ranking boroughs.
The report draws on data and evidence gathered between 2022 and early 2026 covering the most recent Haringey Labour administration. This recognition follows Ofsted’s rating of children’s services in Haringey as ‘Outstanding’ for the first time in the borough’s history.
Cllr Ibrahim Ali, Leader of the Haringey Labour Group, said:
“Haringey Labour has always put our children and young people first. Despite huge cuts under successive Conservative and Liberal Democrat governments, we prioritised the services families rely on.
Under Labour, 98% of schools in Haringey were rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ and free school meals were rolled out in all primary schools. Haringey Labour protected our nurseries, libraries and play areas, and we set up four new Best Start Family Hubs – giving every child the best start in life.
Most importantly, Haringey Labour transformed children’s services which were rated as ‘Outstanding’ for the first time in the borough’s history, delivering first class support for our looked after children and care leavers. This all took years of hard work and leadership from Labour councillors.
I’m delighted that the Children’s Commissioner has recognised Haringey as one of the best places for children to group. We’re proud of what Labour has achieved for Haringey’s children and families, and we will continue working every day to protect the services our young people rely on.”
