Councillor Chandwani speaks at Black Lives Matter rally

By Sarah James, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Labour Councillor for Harringay

On Saturday, 4th July, I attended the Black Lives Matter demonstration on Ducketts Common. There were around 200 people there and strong speeches from a range of community activists as well as fellow councillors James Chiriyankandath and Seema Chandwani.

Stand Up to Racism have been at the forefront of local protests and demonstrations about the use of Tasers and stop and search by the police as well as calling out institutional racism and Islamophobia. Covid-19 has really highlighted the issue of systemic racism and discrimination and it’s vital that we respond with clear actions to address this.
