Haringey Council becomes Living Wage Employer

Haringey Council became a fully accredited London Living Wage borough today at an event hosted by the Living Wage Foundation.

The council already pays staff, agency and temporary workers the independently-calculated Living Wage rate, which has just been raised from £10.20 an hour to £10.55. Today, thanks to the commitment of Haringey Labour, the Council received official recognition as it continues to ensure its hardworking staff are paid a fair wage that reflects both their efforts and the basic cost of living.

The council is also committed to working with its suppliers and partners to encourage them to pay the London Living Wage alongside according their staff full trade union rights in the workplace too.

Haringey Council Leader, Cllr Joseph Ejiofor, attended the event at the Barbican in central London. He said: “I am proud that Haringey has been recognised as a fully accredited London Living Wage borough. Ensuring that all our staff earn enough to have a decent quality of life is a fundamental part of our commitment to making Haringey a fairer and more equal borough – it was a key manifesto pledge of this new administration.

“Paying the London Living Wage also puts more money into local pockets that will be spent within the Haringey economy, boosting trade and helping businesses.”
