Haringey Labour Councillors have responded to social distancing concerns from local businesses and residents by temporarily widening the pavement at some key ‘pinch-points’ in busy areas.

Cllr Seema Chandwani, Haringey Labour Councillor for West Green and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods said, “Coronavirus has changed the way our high streets are operating. Retailers are rightly adhering to social distancing guidelines, but this is leading to queues outside which are reducing pavement space and creating ‘pavement pinch-points’.

“Labour controlled Haringey Council listens to concerns from residents. Where possible and safe to do so, we are temporarily extending pavement spaces outside shops that are attracting queues to enable people to walk safely down our high streets.

“The 10 locations announced last week are the first tranche and our dedicated highways team will be assessing various spaces across the borough and monitoring our high streets to identify new spaces and investigate spots residents are concerned about.”
