Concerns over potential shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE) for care workers has prompted Haringey and other London Boroughs to take action.

The central government PPE supply chain ‘Clipper’ will not be providing stocks to both primary and social care providers reliably for another few weeks.

Cllr Joseph Ejiofor, Leader of Haringey Council said, “Personal protective equipment is absolutely essential for protecting care workers from Coronavirus, and it’s really disappointing that the government’s PPE procurement service won’t be available for another few weeks.

“Until the national supply of PPE can meet the demand, we have a responsibility to ensure that staff who need PPE have access to the correct equipment.

“Haringey Council have entered a partnership with other London Boroughs and have allocated £350,000 to ensure that Haringey care workers receive the PPE they need and are able to safely carry out their essential work.”
