Haringey carers will now receive an hourly uplift in the form of a bonus, which will be worth up to £1000 for the period of April-June.

Cllr Joseph Ejiofor, Leader of Haringey Council said, “Really pleased that we have worked so closely with Haringey UNISON and to be able to deliver this essential uplift to carers during this challenging time.

“Last month we were excited to announce the London Living Wage for council contracted care workers, but regrettably COVID-19 has caused a delay in the new arrangements. It’s vitally important that we do not cause upheaval for care workers and their clients at this time, so we have opted to pay the uplift directly to staff.

“Paying directly to staff allows us to ensure that the entirety of this £1000 wage increase goes directly into the pockets of hardworking care staff, rather than increasing the profits of providers. I want to reassure our care workers that we will be pushing ahead with implementing the London Living Wage as soon as possible.”

Sean Fox, Joint Branch Secretary of Haringey Unison said, “We at UNISON recognize… the commitment the Council has shown to ensuring the delay to [care worker’s] much needed and deserved increase in pay is covered.”
