Haringey’s Cabinet just passed the draft Walking and Cycling Action Plan, which looks to making Haringey’s streets and neighbourhoods safer and reducing health inequalities.

Cllr Matt White, Cabinet Member for Planning and Corporate Services said:

“Social justice is at the heart of our Walking and Cycling Action Plan. The pollution and road danger caused by cars disproportionately impacts the poorest and most vulnerable in our society, so we are committed to making Haringey’s streets and neighbourhoods safer and less polluted.

“More than half of Haringey residents have no access to a car, so we will prioritise pedestrians and those who use public transport, reallocating street space away from cars to support active travel, reduce carbon emissions, and therefore reduce health inequalities.

“It’s important that our borough is designed for our residents, so I encourage all residents to participate in the upcoming public consultation. In supporting this policy, residents can help us build a greener and fairer Haringey.”

Details of the consultation will be published on Haringey Council’s website soon.
